Why was Tom happy after his dream? (MEG 102) (SONGS OF INNOCENCE AND SONGS OF EXPERIENCE)

Tom was happy after his dream because in the dream, he saw several chimney sweepers who had died and gone to heaven. The sweepers were all happy and wearing clean clothes. An angel then arrived with a key and unlocked a black box, revealing another angel inside who was holding a bright, shining palm. The first angel put the palm into the black box, and suddenly all the sweepers' hair turned white like snow, and they became angels themselves.

Tom saw this transformation and hoped that his life would also one day be transformed like the sweepers in his dream. This gave him hope and happiness, despite the difficult circumstances of his life as a chimney sweeper. The dream symbolizes the possibility of redemption and transformation, even for those who suffer and are oppressed.
